SSL VISTA COORDINATOR POSITION

GOAL OF THE PROJECT

JOB OPEN FOR SSL VISTA JOB LEADS COORDINATOR
The SSL VISTA Job Leads Coordinator will help connect community members with skill-building opportunities to advance their income and encourage career development. Their main goal is to help build financial support for low-income residents of South Salt Lake. This VISTA will assist with the development of the Promise South Salt Lake Jobs & Economy Council through partnering with local businesses, educational providers, and residents of South Salt Lake.  He/she will work to develop partnerships that will provide opportunities for income education to the population. This position will explore and electronically categorize community workshops and GED/English class opportunities to help people develop critical career skills and money management.   They will develop partnerships and programming that will be sustainable and accessible to the community beyond their year of service.

OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION:

The SSL VISTA Job Leads Coordinator will research data and develop partnerships to develop a resource arsenal that can be presented to the public in capacities that are appropriate for various audiences.  He/she will research current job conditions and incomes in South Salt Lake, track current partnerships with local businesses, career counselors, business organizations, and community members, research and categorize electronically job opportunities as well as skills development workshops and classes in SSL, develop a resource arsenal for age groups and populations who are looking to develop career skills, and implement an orientation session about the jobs finding process/decide a best way to make connections with the community members looking for employment and skill building.

ACTIVITIES:

During months 1-3 the SSL Job Leads Coordinator will research the current employment programming and activities in South Salt Lake through revisiting the VISTA year 1 efforts to learn about the efforts of various community partners, and he/she will work to categorize this information electronically and in an easily sharable format for the upcoming Promise South Salt Lake Jobs & Economy Council. During months 2-4, this VISTA will be responsible for coordinating the evaluation process of the resident experience and survey of those receiving employment services.    During months 6-8 this VISTA will conduct a survey of residents who receive services as well as community partners; during months 9-12 this VISTA will make recommendations based on the findings of the surveys to the Jobs and Economy Council about what programs are successful, what is missing in South Salt Lake, what is in high and low demand, trends in South Salt Lake employment, etc.  Finally, during months 1-12 this VISTA member will work to provide high tech, low tech, and no tech systems for dispersing information about community classes and opportunities.       


OBJECTIVE:

This VISTA will serve on the Promise South Salt Lake Jobs and Economy Council and attend Destination Graduation and Beyond events and meetings to network with partners and connect residents with opportunities.  He/she will research and manage data about the employment of South Salt Lake to communicate about the program to various audiences, such as partners and funders and to evaluate efforts of the Promise South Salt Lake Jobs and Economy Council.


ACTIVITIES:

During months 2-6, this VISTA will research, attend, and catalog all of the employment, finance, and skill-building courses in the City of South Salt Lake.   Through months 1-12, he/she will build partnerships with businesses and employment partners in South Salt Lake, and, during months 3-4, develop materials to highlight the current economic conditions in the city.  During months 5-7 this VISTA will survey participants in community workshops to identify needs and compile a recommendations report for the newly formed council.  Through months 1-12 the Get Healthy South Salt Lake program, the VISTA will assist 240 individuals/families in finding access to needed services.  On a monthly basis (one per month) he/she will work with planned events and promotions in South Salt Lake to increase the program’s presence.
