Environmental Justice/Poverty Simulation

Environmental Justice/Poverty Simulation

Date:    Friday, April 12th

When:  2:00 - 4:30pm  -  Simulation
              4:30 - 6:00   - Networking & Mingling

Where: Frida Bistro (545 West 700 South)

Synopsis of the EJ SimulationIf you would like to attend the simulation,
The simulation will educate and energize dialogue about the
day-to-day realities of life with a shortage of money
and recognition, and an abundance of personal stress
based in issues of socio-environmental health.

It will enable participants to view environmental justice from
different angles in an experiential setting
in order to expand awareness and
engage students in the very real struggles that
millions of people face in U.S. society.
Participants will role-play the lives of disadvantaged families
from single parents trying to care for their children to senior citizens trying to maintain their health and welfare when subjected to environmental injustices.
The task of each family is to provide food, shelter and other basic necessities
during the simulation while interacting
with various community resource agencies.

During 2:00-4:30:

  • Attendees participate in a role play simulation and experience first-hand the struggles that families, disadvantaged by poverty and environmental concerns, deal with day to day.
During 4:30-6:00:
  • Engage in discussions over appetizers provided by Frida Bistro. Please stay and network with a broad audience of like-minded individuals in the fields of environmental education and environmental justice.
  • Plan to grab dinner at Frida’s and make it a night!
